- PROBLEMS confronting the early church
- Rapid GROWTH of the church

- MURMURING arose (behind the scenes complaining)

- Murmuring is a SYMPTOM of a problem
- CULTURAL differences
- Different LIFESTYLES
- Different TRANSLATIONS of the Scriptures
- PEOPLE who solved the problem:
- People cause problems and people solve them. Problems that are
solved will be solved by people (although it has been said that a
number of church problems have been solved with a few funerals.)
- The APOSTLES - in our day, the ELDERS assume this role
- The BRETHREN - need responsibility w/ accountability
- The SEVEN men - the first DEACONS? They were . . .
- Willing to serve under DIFFICULT conditions
- RESPECTED by whole church
- Guided by SPIRITUAL truth. They were full of . . .
- Holy Spirit
- wisdom
- CAPABLE of getting the job done
- PRIORITIES that were preserved
- The problem was openly and fully faced:
- Not IGNORED
- Not HIDDEN
- Ignoring / attempting to hide problems is a recipe for . . .
- DISCONTENT
- DIVISION
- DISASTER
- God's word was PRESERVED in the solution
- "It is not REASON . . ."
- not too good to serve tables, but not at the expense of the word
- The WELL-BEING of the church was maintained
- The whole multitude was PLEASED = UNITY
- We can please people w/o being "people-pleasers" Gal 1:10
- Getting people to be pleased with the preaching and practice of
the Word in its FULNESS.
- PROGRESS that was made
- The Word of God INCREASED
- The number of disciples MULTIPLIED
- Many of the PRIESTS became obedient to the faith
