Five Great Things Found in First Peter

1.   Great SALVATION – 1:3-12

      a.   Think of the great salvations of Israel’s history

            i.   From Egypt – Exodus 14:3; 15:2

            ii.  From the Philistines – 1 Samuel 17; 19:5

            iii. From Assyria – 2 Kings 19

            iv. Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego from Nebuchadnezzar

            v.   Daniel from the lion’s den

            vi. From Haman and his wicked plan – Esther

      b.   But this was the greatest salvation ever told

            i.   Isaiah 25:9-10 – manifest with the appearance of GOD

            ii.  Isaiah 45:17 – it was to be an ETERNAL salvation

            iii. Prophets & angels desired to see this salvation:

                  (1) vv 10-12

                  (2) Matthew 13:17

2.   Great EXAMPLE – 2:21-23

      a.   Philippians 2:5-8 – Christ showed us how to:

            i.   THINK - v 5

            ii.  SERVE - v 7

            iii. OBEY - v 8 (cf Hebrews 5:8-9)

            iv. DIE - v 8

      b.   John 13:12-17

      c.   1 Peter 5:5

3.   Great RESPONSIBILITY – 3:15-16

      a.   Speak TASTEFULLY & TACTFULLY – Colossians 4:6

      b.   Speak TRUTHFULLY – Titus 2:1

      c.   Speak TENDERLY – Ephesians 4:15

4.   Great NAME – 4:12-16

      a.   Exodus 6:3; 9:16

      b.   Isaiah 62:1-5

      c.   Isaiah 65:1

      d.   Isaiah 66:22

      e.   Acts 11:26

      f.   Revelation 2:13; 3:8

5.   Great ENEMY – 5:8-9

      a.   A Liar and Murderer:

            i.   Genesis 3

            ii.  John 8:42-44

      b.   A Deceiver:

            i.   2 Corinthians 2:11

            iii. 2 Corinthians 11:12-15

      c.   But not Unbeatable
