My Responsibility to God’s Word: 1 Timothy 4:1-16

1.   I must PROCLAIM the Word: vv 1-6

      a.   To reprove false doctrine

            i.   Matthew 22:22-30

            ii.  2 Timothy 4:1-5

      b.   To remind the brethren: Phil 3:1; 2 Pet 3:1-2

            i.   1 Peter 1:12-15

            ii.  Ephesians 2:8-13

            iii. Revelation 2:5; 3:3

2.   I must PRACTICE the Word: vv 7-12

      a.   Refuse the profane:

            i.   Ephesians 5:1-7

            ii.  2 Timothy 2:15-16

            iii. 1 Peter 1:15-16

      b.   Remember the promise:

            i.   2 Corinthians 6:17 - 7:1 (cf John 17:17)

            ii.  2 Peter 1:2-4

      c.   Resilient in presecution:

            i.   Matthew 5:10-12

            ii.  2 Timothy 3:12

            iii. 1 Peter 4:12-16

3.   I must PROGRESS in the Word: vv13-16

      a.   Take heed to the word (note the progression in v 13)

      b.   Take advantage of opportunities (for learning, doing good)

      c.   Take heed to myself (cf 1 Cor 10:12)

      d.   Take hearers to heaven (cf Eze 33:9)
