Make Me a Servant – Attributes of Servanthood

1.   Servant DEFINED

      a.   Doulos - one who gives himself wholly to another’s will, a slave (127 appearances in the New Testament).

      b.   Diakonos - one who serves, executes the commands of another. Perhaps a compound of dia (through) + konis (dust) = kicking up the dust. (30 times in the NT - “servant,” “minister,” “deacon.”)

2.   Servant DESCRIBED

      a.   Must not STRIVE (2 Tim 2:24) but rather try to SAVE (v 25-26)

      b.   Must be SOBER:

            i.   Matthew 24:45-46

            ii.  1 Thessalonians 5:6-8

            iii. 1 Peter 4:7

      c.   Must be STEADFAST - 1 Corinthians 15:58

3.   Servant-hood DEMANDED

      a.   Matthew 20:25-28

      b.   Galatians 5:13
