Thy Will Be Done: Accomplishing the Will of God in Our Lives

1.   God’s will is not always accomplished on the earth

      a.   1 Timothy 2:4

      b.   2 Peter 3:9

      c.   Romans 1:24-32

      d.   Not in the church: Luke 12:47; 2 Timothy 4:1-5

      e.   Not even in the ministry of Jesus: John 6:39; 17:11-12

2.   Matthew 6:10 – God’s will is done in His KINGDOM.

      a.   God’s will is done in Heaven.

      b.   God’s will is done on earth in the KINGDOM = CHURCH.

             i.    Matthew 16:18-19; 18:18

             ii.   Colossians 1:13

             iii.  Revelation 1:9

3.   God’s will is done on earth when men OBEY Him:

      a.   DAVID – Acts 13:22

      b.   JESUS – Hebrews 10:7, 9

             i.    in His ministry: John 4:34; 5:30; 6:38

             ii.   in the Garden: Matthew 26:42; Luke 22:42

      c.   PAUL

             i.    5 times Paul attributed his apostleship to the will of God

             ii.   1 Corinthians 9:16-17

4.   Let God’s will be done:

      a.   In our homes

      b.   In our jobs

      c.   In our schools

      d.   In our religion

      e.   In our salvation

             i.    John 1:12-13

             ii.   “The salvation of the soul is the result of two wills conjoined: the will of God, and the will of man. If God will not the salvation of man, he cannot be saved: If man will not the salvation God has prepared for him, he cannot be delivered from his sins” (Adam Clarke).

      f.    One must understand the will of God to obey it - Ephesians 5:17
