Understanding the Hideousness of Sin
- How does one describe the hideousness of sin?
- Words are inadequate to describe sin:
- Our society has dulled our senses to sin - Acts 28:26-27
- We think of the sins of others as being worse than our own
- Perhaps the only means to get a grip on the heinousness of sin is
to examine the nature of God and the punishment God has
decreed against it.
- The Nature of God - Psalm 51:1-4
- Infinite in power - Genesis 1:1; 2 Peter 3:5-7
- Infinite in wisdom - Isaiah 40:12-17; Romans 11:33-36
- Infinite in love - John 3:16; Romans 5:6-8; Titus 3:3-7
- Infinite in mercy - 42 times "His mercy endureth for ever"
- Infinite in compassion - Psalm 78:37-39; 145:8-9; 2 Peter 3:9
- Perfect in character -
- Titus 1:2 - cannot lie
- James 1:13 - cannot be tempted with evil
- 1 Peter 1:15-16 -- absolute holiness
