Amazing Grace: Falsehoods

 

1.   The grace of God is received by a DIRECT operation of the Holy Spirit and brings to man a saving FAITH:

      a.   “Proof text” Acts 18:27 the Achaian brethren believed thru grace

      b.   Acts 19:1 Achaia = Corinth . . . cf Acts 18:1-8 (esp v 8)

      c.   Faith comes by hearing God’s Word:

            i.   John 6:44-45; John 20:30-31

            ii.  Romans 10:17

            iii. Thru hearing & obedience, grace can be seen Acts 11:21-23

 

2.   The grace of God is IRRESISTIBLE:

      a.   “this calling can not be resisted nor hindered in any way”

            i.   Matthew 13:15 (cf. Acts 28:26-28)

            ii.  Acts 7:51

      b.   A product of the false doctrine of total depravity:

            i.   “Proof text” – Psalm 51:5

            ii.  Ezekiel 18:20

 

3.   Grace & Law are mutually EXCLUSIVE (i.e., they cannot co-exist)

      a.   Comes from a misunderstanding of Romans 6:14

      b.   Romans 4:15 where there is no LAW, there can be no TRANSGRESSION

      c.   Romans 5:13 sin is not charged where there is no LAW

      d.   Romans 3:23 ALL have sinned & fallen short of God’s glory

      e.   1 John 3:4 SIN is a transgression of the LAW.

      f.   James 1:13-16

 

4.   We are saved by grace ONLY:

      a.   “Proof texts”

            i.   Ephesians 2:5, 8-10

            ii.  Acts 15:11

      b.   Romans 8:24- we are saved by HOPE

      c.   Titus 3:5- we are saved by God’s LOVE & MERCY

      d.   Acts 11:14- we are saved by WORDS

      e.   Rom. 1:16; 1 Cor. 15:1-2 we are saved by the GOSPEL

      f.   James 2:24 - we are saved by WORKS

      g.   Hebrews 5:8-9 we are saved by OBEDIENCE

 

5.   Man cannot FALL from the grace of God:

      a.   “Proof texts”

            i.   John 10:27-29

            ii.  John 6:39

      b.   John 17:12

      c.   2 Peter 3:9; 1 Timothy 2:4

      d.   Matthew 7:21-27; 25:31-46

      e.   Galatians 5:4 Ye HAVE FALLEN from grace (past tense, & written to the churches of Galatia- 1:2) (cf. Hebrews 12:14-15)

      f.   2 Corinthians 6:1 the grace of God can be received in VAIN

      g.   Hebrews 12:14-15 – “fail” = come short

            i.   Romans 3:23

            ii.  Hebrews 4:1
