  1. A Look at the Book:
    1. Date:
      1. The reign of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, & Hezekiah (1:1)
      2. This period encompassed about 105 years, but it is safe to assume his work began late in the reign of Uzziah as Isaiah wrote a biography of Hezekiah’s life after his death (2 Ch 32:32-33) @ 687 B.C.
      3. His work spanned over 50 years — 740 - 687 B.C.
      4. Scripture span — 2 Ki 15:1 (Azariah = Uzziah) - 2 Ki 20:21
      5. Only book found in its completeness among the Dead Sea Scrolls - 1947

      2. Married to a prophetess and had two sons
      3. Isaiah’s contemporaries included Micah in Judah, and Amos & Hosea in Israel.
      4. Jewish tradition holds that Manasseh killed Isaiah (Sawed him in two - cf. Heb 11:37) after the death of Hezekiah, thus there is no mention of Manasseh in the book of Isaiah.
