Profitable Bible Study
1. Bible Study should be a PRIORITY
a. 1 Timothy 4:13,16 – “give attendance to” = lit. “put the mind on”
b. For what it is:
i. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
ii. Psalm 119:160
iii. John 17:17
c. For what it does:
i. Produces faith – Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:6
ii. Begets us of God – James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:22-23
iii. Saves us – James 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:15; Acts 10:33; 11:14
2. Bible Study must be PERSONAL
a. Acts 17:11
b. 2 Timothy 2:15
c. Second-hand faith is no faith at all.
3. Bible Study must be PRACTICAL
a. All of the Bible is INSPIRED – 2 Timothy 3:16
b. All of the Bible is PROFITABLE – 2 Timothy 3:16
c. All of the Bible is written for our learning – Romans 15:4
d. But some things are more easily understood than others - 2 P 3:16
i. Some of the scriptures are described as milk – 1 Peter 2:2
ii. Some of the scriptures are described as meat – Heb 5:12-14
4. What is studied should be PONDERED
a. Psalm 1:1-3
b. Psalm 119:97, 148
c. 1 Timothy 4:15
d. Psalm 23:2
5. What is studied should be PRACTICED
a. 1 Timothy 4:15
b. Matthew 23:3-4
c. James 1:22-25
