Are You Prepared to Take the Lord's Supper?
Lord's Supper as Pictured in the Passover
- Exodus 12:1-14 the INSTITUTION of the Passover
- v 2 - the BIRTH of a nation
- v 3a - first use of the word CONGREGATION
- vv 3b-6 - laws pertaining to the LAMB
- v 8 - it was to be eaten with UNLEAVENED bread
- v 11 - it is the LORD'S Passover = showing POSSESSION
- v 12 - warning against the death of the FIRSTBORN
- v 13 - token of BLOOD
- v 14 - this shall be a MEMORIAL
- vv 24-27 - the example and instruction for the CHILDREN
- vv 43-48 - no STRANGER, no FOREIGNER, nor any
UNCIRCUMCISED person was to observe the Passover
- Exodus 12:15 - the PURIFICATION of God's people
- v 15a - only unleavened bread could be eaten for 7 days
following the Passover
- v 15b - leaven was not to be found in their HOUSES
- v 15c - anyone who ate leavened bread was to be KILLED
- Application to the Lord's Supper

- it is to be observed only among God's people, citizens of the
KINGDOM - Matthew 26:29
- It is to be observed as a CONGREGATION - 1 Cor 11:33
- It is to be eaten with UNLEAVENED bread and the token of
BLOOD - Matt 26:26-28; 1 Cor 11:23-25
- It is a MEMORIAL - 1 Corinthians 11:24-25
- the necessity of PURITY - "getting the leaven out"
- CONGREGATIONAL:
- 1 Corinthians 5:6-8
- 1 Corinthians 11:17-22
- vv 17-18 - the church was DIVIDED
- vv 21-22 - a spirit of selfishness & superiority existed
among the "have's" vs. the "have not's"
- INDIVIDUAL: 1 Corinthians 11:27-30
- v 27 - whosoever eats unworthily is guilty of the BODY
and the BLOOD of Jesus (cf Heb 10:28-31)
- v 28 - it is to be observed only after personal examination
- v 29 - whoever eats and drinks unworthily eats and drinks
DAMNATION to himself
- v 30 - failure to properly discern the Lord's body had
caused spiritual SICKNESS & DEATH among them
