  1. Exodus 12:1-14 the INSTITUTION of the Passover
    1. v 2 - the BIRTH of a nation
    2. v 3a - first use of the word CONGREGATION
    3. vv 3b-6 - laws pertaining to the LAMB
    4. v 8 - it was to be eaten with UNLEAVENED bread
    5. v 11 - it is the LORD'S Passover = showing POSSESSION
    6. v 12 - warning against the death of the FIRSTBORN
    7. v 13 - token of BLOOD
    8. v 14 - this shall be a MEMORIAL
    9. vv 24-27 - the example and instruction for the CHILDREN
    10. vv 43-48 - no STRANGER, no FOREIGNER, nor any UNCIRCUMCISED person was to observe the Passover


  2. Exodus 12:15 - the PURIFICATION of God's people
    1. v 15a - only unleavened bread could be eaten for 7 days following the Passover
    2. v 15b - leaven was not to be found in their HOUSES
    3. v 15c - anyone who ate leavened bread was to be KILLED




  1. Application to the Lord's Supper
    1. Its INSITUTION
      1. it is to be observed only among God's people, citizens of the KINGDOM - Matthew 26:29
      2. It is to be observed as a CONGREGATION - 1 Cor 11:33
      3. It is to be eaten with UNLEAVENED bread and the token of BLOOD - Matt 26:26-28; 1 Cor 11:23-25
      4. It is a MEMORIAL - 1 Corinthians 11:24-25
    2. the necessity of PURITY - "getting the leaven out"
      1. CONGREGATIONAL:
        1. 1 Corinthians 5:6-8
        2. 1 Corinthians 11:17-22
          1. vv 17-18 - the church was DIVIDED
          2. vv 21-22 - a spirit of selfishness & superiority existed among the "have's" vs. the "have not's"
      2. INDIVIDUAL: 1 Corinthians 11:27-30
        1. v 27 - whosoever eats unworthily is guilty of the BODY and the BLOOD of Jesus (cf Heb 10:28-31)
        2. v 28 - it is to be observed only after personal examination
        3. v 29 - whoever eats and drinks unworthily eats and drinks DAMNATION to himself
        4. v 30 - failure to properly discern the Lord's body had caused spiritual SICKNESS & DEATH among them
