Motivations for Giving

WRONG MOTIVATIONS

1.   To be SEEN of MEN:

      a.   Matthew 6:1-4

      b.   Acts 4:34 - 5:10

2.   Out of fear of CONDEMNATION:

      a.   1 Corinthians 16:1-2

      b.   2 Corinthians 9:6-7

      c.   2 Corinthians 8:8

3.   To “meet the BUDGET”

RIGHT MOTIVATIONS

1.   Love that comes from knowing GOD has provided:

      a.   1 Corinthians 16:1-2

      b.   Deuteronomy 16:15-17

2.   Love that comes from knowing Jesus’ SACRIFICE: 2 Cor 8:8

3.   Because it is more blessed to GIVE than to RECEIVE:

      a.   Acts 20:35

      b.   God demonstrated this in the giving of His Son.

4.   Because people are in NEED

      a.   Psalm 41:1-3

      b.   James 1:27

5.   Because the GOSPEL must be PREACHED: Romans 10:13-15

6.   Because I can bring GLORY to God through my giving:

      a.   2 Corinthians 9:12-15

      b.   Matthew 5:16

      c.   My giving can also bring SHAME – 2 Corinthians 9:1-4
